What is a Service Dog?

This is a dog that provides assistance in accomplishing a large variety of tasks that its handler would otherwise have undue difficulty completing on their own.

True Service Dogs only work with disabled individuals and perform physical tasks; this should not be confused with Emotional Support Dogs.

Our Service Dog Program (SDP) is a non-profit organization that actively seeks to place fully-trained, working Service Dogs with sims living with disabilities. At this time, our focus is on Mobility Assistance/Bracing and Psychiatric Dogs. Of the latter, we focus much more intensely on PTSD but also train for other psychiatric conditions.

Our team members hand-raise all candidates from infancy using our own breeding program. All breeds utilized, regardless of specialty, are generally healthy and large-sized dogs. They live with a trainer for a minimum of two years before being placed.

As these dogs are intended for work, they will generally not be accepted as breeding stock.

All females are spayed before being turned over to their new handlers, no exceptions. We firmly adhere to this policy due to the nature of a bitch's heat coming into conflict with their work.

Males may occasionally be left in-tact and allowed to be offered for stud by their new handlers.

This is on a very rare and case-by-case basis, extended only to breeders of great renown since we are incredibly protective of our service bloodlines. Expect even stricter breeding contracts should we allow this.

Application Policies & Agency Guarantees

  • We will only ever supply reliable breeds that have been health and temperament tested.

  • Breeds currently offered by our program include: the Leonberger, Bernese Mountain Dog, and Irish Wolfe.

  • Service Dogs, if left unaltered, may not be bred without VS's explicit permission.

  • Any of our dogs that are washed out will be adopted out to show or companion homes.

  • Disabled/applying sims may not supply their own dog, nor request a specific one; washout rates are too high for this, however we will accommodate applicant needs and desires to the best of our ability.

  • Applicants may not choose their dog's breed, although they may mention one breed they'd prefer not to receive.

  • Should the new handler find the dog incompatible, it must be returned to VS.

  • We expect our dogs not to 'disappear' and have updates posted somewhere on the SIKC forum over time or we reserve the right to reclaim them.
